MOTORHEAD - LEMMY On Winning GRAMMY: 'Nobody Deserves It More'
|
|
MOTÖRHEAD frontman Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister spoke to Jon Bream of the Minneapolis
Star Tribune about winning his first Grammy after 30 years in the hard-rock
wars.

"It's about bloody time," said Kilmister. "Nobody deserves it more, although
I'm too modest to say it."
Of course, the irony is that the trophy for best heavy-metal performance
isn't for MOTÖRHEAD's 21st and latest CD, "Inferno", but for a METALLICA
song ("Whiplash") that the British trio recorded for a tribute CD. That's
OK — Kilmister isn't complaining.
"I don't mind it," said the singer-bassist, "but it would mean more if it
was one of our numbers."
For a full-tilt trio that pioneered speed metal and prides itself on sex,
drugs and relentlessness, a Grammy isn't going to make MOTÖRHEAD respectable.
"There's not much chance of that; don't worry," said Kilmister, who will
turn 60 on Christmas Eve. "It's too late for this band."
Kilmister said he thinks that the Grammy will have no impact on MOTÖRHEAD's
career. He has had mainstream recognition before: "We did 'The Tonight Show'
many years ago, and our sales went down."
