OTEP - Kentucky Show Shut Down By Fire Marshall
|
|
OTEP's June 26 performance at the Bulldog Cafe in Louisville, KY was reportedly
shut down by the fire marshall and police due to overcrowding. The following
is OTEP frontwoman Otep Shamaya's posting on the band's official web site
regarding the incident:
"Even though this show only lasted 12 minutes and 47 seconds, it was obvious
to me that it was populated with one of the most intense and passionate
audiences we've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. If only we would
have been able to play the entire set... Wow ... We would have shaken the
foundations of the cosmos... But the fire marshall was a complete communist
and shut everything down. But I was true to my word and wouldn't leave the
stage until the cops were called... I kept singing until they forced us
off the stage... The fire marshall shut off the PA during 'My Confession'
but the audience kept singing... every... word.
"It was amazing.
"Then the biggest cop I've ever seen pulled Evil J's hand off his bass strings
and crowded me saying, 'It's over, it's over.' So I saluted him... saluted
the crowd and then I was manuevered off stage and to the bus...
"We will probably be fined and the cops are still outside the bus so who
knows what will happen... But I know one thing for certain: WE WILL RETURN,
AND TOGETHER ANNIHILATE THE NEOPHYTES."
OTEP's sophomore album, "House of Secrets" (2004), was produced by Greg
Wells, who has previously worked with a diverse range of artists, including
the DEFTONES, MICHELLE BRANCH, and ELTON JOHN. The follow-up to 2002's "Sevas
Tra" was recorded at Los Angeles' Rocket Carousel Studios and features guest
drumming on six tracks by SLIPKNOT basher Joey Jordison.
